High hopes as bomb dump cleared to make way for big name retail and leisure park

Bombs and bullets from World War II ammunition dumps are being cleared from a South Staffs site to pave the way for retail and leisure development.

It’s hoped big name retailers, fast food and coffee drive throughs and even leisure outlets will move on to the site which has laid derelict for 30 years.

Plans have been submitted for 52,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space, including three drive-through units and two large spaces for retailers or leisure operators.

Preparation work – including removing all that historic ordnance – is set to be completed by June, development is scheduled to begin in autumn 2025, with completion set for September 2026, pending planning approval.

Property management and investment M Core is behind the plans.  Nick Bryson, Director- Industrial at LCP, which is pat of the business, said “We’re thrilled to have now formally submitted the planning application for the Blue Hoarded site in Burntwood.

“This is a location that has stood empty for decades, so we’re delighted to take another step forward towards developing this site into a thriving retail and leisure scheme for the local community.”

Lichfield Councillor Darren Ennis, who also leads Burntwood Town Council, said: “It’s brilliant to see this kind of development coming to Burntwood.

“Not only does it bring quality jobs to the area, but it also delivers the kinds of businesses our community both wants and needs. I’m excited to see which operators this new development will attract to the area.”
