A Stoke-on-Trent construction firm has submitted plans to build 115 apartments on the former site of a legendary nightclub.
H&S Construction is seeking planning permission for two new residential blocks on an L- shaped plot off Bryan Street in Stoke-on-Trent where The Place nightclub once stood.
The Place is often cited as the UK’s first discotheque and attracted acts including David Bowie and Led Zeppelin.
According to planning documents, the last buildings on the site were cleared circa 2016. Part of the development site has also previously been used as a factory and builders’ yard.
Under the plans, 64 apartments would be created in one building and 51 in another. All of them would have one bedroom and the majority would have their own balcony area.
A planning statement reads: “The application site is located in a highly sustainable location within the city centre boundary and comprises a parcel of otherwise vacant previously developed land.
“The redevelopment of the site to provide 115no. apartments will make a valuable contribution towards meeting housing demands within the City, and will do so by making beneficial reuse of a sustainable located, previously developed site.”
The planning application is being considered by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
