Lightwood based couple Ryan and Becky Edwards are hoping to create a bee-inspired visitor attraction combining environmental education, natural skincare products and unique wellbeing experiences after turning a shared passion into a growing business.
The founders of None of Your Beeswax launched the venture and have invested over £100,000 after discovering that their fascination with bees offered far more opportunities than they had ever imagined.
Originally, the couple had planned to invest in property as a way of building financial security and boosting their retirement plans. Instead, a love of bees, sparked by a small patch of wildflowers in their garden, led them down a completely different path.
Inspired by their growing passion, the couple decided to purchase a piece of land in Foxt where they could establish an apiary and begin their beekeeping journey.
Today, the business produces a growing range of paraben-free, cruelty-free skincare products including lip balms, body balms and oil-to-lotion bars, while continuing to research new additions such as natural deodorants and beard balms.
Becky had long been interested in bees after taking part in a beekeeping activity at a festival several years ago. Her passion only grew over time and she often spoke about her dream of one day having her own beehives.
In 2024, Ryan transformed part of their garden into a wildflower meadow using the same seeds the couple had gifted as wedding favours to guests. The colourful patch soon became a haven for pollinators.
Watching Becky enjoy the garden and the bees it attracted inspired Ryan to learn more about beekeeping, honeybees and the vital role they play in the environment.
Ryan said: “Originally, we were focused on investing in property, but the more we learned about bees, the more our plans changed.
“What started as a conversation about keeping a few hives quickly developed into something much bigger. We realised there was so much more to beekeeping than simply producing honey.
“The more we learned about beeswax, propolis, pollen and the incredible benefits they offer, the more inspired we became to create products that reflected our values and our passion for natural ingredients.
“We wanted to build something we could genuinely be proud of. Every product we make is carefully considered and designed to be as natural and simple as possible, without unnecessary additives.”
As well as their skincare range, the couple are now hoping to create an education centre and wellbeing experience.
Drawing on their backgrounds in education, they hope to one day establish a dedicated bee education centre on their own land, offering children and adults the opportunity to learn about pollinators, experience beekeeping first-hand and gain a deeper understanding of the natural world.
Future plans also include creating a unique wellbeing experience where visitors can relax above live beehives, listening to the soothing hum of the colony while experiencing the warmth, aromas and gentle vibrations produced by the bees.
Ryan added: “We’re not simply trying to build a business that sells honey and natural products. We want to create something that brings people together, supports the environment, inspires future generations and helps people experience the incredible world of bees in a completely different way.”
