East Staffordshire Borough Council’s 2023-24 Corporate Plan has now “gone live” – with further confirmation of action plans for two major town centres.

The refreshed Plan – formally adopted at a full Council meeting – gives the green light to the purchase of the former Co-op building in Uttoxeter.

The purchase was approved at the Council meeting and is a cornerstone of the town centre makeover plans.

The Maltings Regeneration Project aims to maximise the potential of the precinct as a residential, retail, leisure and commercial area.

One of the aims of the initiative, which will be backed by up to £1 million from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund together with £1.8 million from the council’s capital fund, is to fully realise the town’s potential by stimulating investment.

Meanwhile in Burton upon Trent, the High Street Regeneration Project will bring about a range of improvements.

The Corporate Plan pledges to launch the new temporary National Archive Centre and Regeneration Update Hub.

The Council will continue to work with key partners such as the National Brewery Heritage Trust and the Heritage Working Group to develop the proposal for the new National Museum of Brewing.

The Corporate Plan lists the Council’s five corporate priorities as improving local democracy, creating a prosperous East Staffordshire, developing a Green New Deal for East Staffordshire, protecting the region’s heritage and standing up for communities.
