Manufacturer’s £100k energy efficiency upgrade accelerates output

1 min read

A roofing system manufacturer enjoying increased success is investing in new machinery to speed up output to meet continued market demand.

Russell Roof Tiles, headquartered in Burton upon Trent, has invested £100,000 in injection moulding machinery.

The new high-efficiency Borche Injection Moulding Machine will fast-track its production processes at its dedicated plastics facility on Wetmore Lane, which manufactures UPVC accessories.

The machine will be used to make Dry Verge Unit accessories for Russell Roof Tiles’ latest new product Bute3® , the UK’s first multi-functional roof tile.

Daniel Hancox, Corporate Sustainability and Development Director at Russell Roof Tiles, said: “This latest investment marks the latest step in our product investment journey and supports our ongoing sustainable strategy to minimise our environmental impact.

“This new machine offers potential energy savings of up to 60 to 80 per cent, aligning nicely with our sustainability and Net Zero objectives, helping us further reduce our carbon footprint.”

Russell Roof Tiles aims to become Net Zero by 2040, 10 years earlier than the agreed Government target, and has initiated several recent projects to enhance product offerings and become more energy efficient.

Russell Roof Tiles provided its full system for The Paddocks scheme in Surrey.

The firm is investing £18.5 million into a new state-of-the-art plant at its Nicolson Way main tile manufacturing site, with construction in its final stages.

The most recent investment comes as Russell Roof Tiles is enjoying growing success in the south as planners and housebuilders seek a more sustainable alternative to traditional tile materials.

Russell Roof Tiles says its investment in product development, with innovative new products well suited to the Southern market, is attributed to growth in the region.

The manufacturer has recently provided its complete roof system to Berkshire-based housing developer, Bloor Homes for a new scheme called The Paddocks located in a village near Guildford in Surrey.

Russell Roof Tiles’ products provided the project with the desired rural roof look whilst meeting the needed sustainable credentials to enable Bloor Homes to provide energy-efficient homes.

Manging Director Andrew Hayward said: “This latest project highlights our ongoing expansion and success in the South, as we continue to grow our presence across the country. We’ve gained strong traction across counties such as Berkshire, Essex, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, Surrey and Hampshire, delivering our high-quality roofing solutions to some of the UK’s leading housing developers.

“The regional requirements across the UK are quite specific for pitched roofing and we have expanded our product lines to meet the demand for authentic clay aesthetics in the South, including our innovative Bute3® tile, a triple interlocking multipurpose roof tile which provides the first real alternative to small-format concrete, natural clay, and slate roof coverings.”
