Floating overnight accommodation launched at Aston Marina

1 min read

A new floating ‘hotel suite’ has been launched at the site of a restaurant and wedding venue as it awaits planning permission to build a boutique hotel.

Aston Marina has invested £165,000 into Dragonfly, a wide beam boat offering overnight accommodation on the water for wedding couples and diners.

The site near Stone is home to the award-winning No.26 Bar & Restaurant, waterside dining domes and events spaces The Hideaway and The Boat House, but has not been able to over overnight accommodation until now.

In May last year, Aston Marina submitted plans to build a 35-bedroom boutique hotel onsite due to a growing demand in the area for this facility. The plans have since been revised and are awaiting a decision.

Aston Marina Director Helen Clayton said: “We regularly get asked about overnight accommodation and, while our plans for a proposed hotel are still under review, we decided to look to the water as a solution. We already host a range of moorings for narrowboats at the marina, so adding ‘hotel rooms’ on the water seemed the natural step.

“However, while narrowboats are charming, they offer restricted space and that didn’t quite fit the vision we had of effectively a floating 5-star hotel suite special enough for couples to spend their wedding night in.

“Dragonfly is the perfect solution – she offers some 600 square feet of accommodation; including an open-plan living area with fully-equipped kitchen; a luxurious bathroom and a spacious double bedroom with breath-taking views across the marina. We can’t wait to welcome our first guests next month!”
