The builders of an upcoming multi-storey car park in Newcastle-under-Lyme are reaching out to local supply chain partners and local workers.
Morgan Sindall Construction, who operate across the UK to deliver construction and regeneration, are holding a meet-up event for interested parties.
“Getting Connected – Building Local Opportunities” – takes the concept of a traditional “meet the buyer” session but takes it a step further as part of the pre-construction process.
The new multi-storey, with 472 spaces, is set to be built at the town’s Ryecroft site and replace Midway car park, which is deemed no longer fit for purpose.
In advance of the work starting on the car park in the autumn, the company is meeting local suppliers, manufacturers and social enterprises to discuss with them how they can access the supply chain.
The event takes place at NSG Newcastle College between 1pm and 3pm on 17 July.
Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce and Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, the client for the development, will also be present.
The event is also open to local jobseekers and is being advertised through Jobcentre Plus and the Department for Work and Pensions.
Those seeking employment are being invited to attend to make connections with Morgan Sindall and the various employers who will be at the event. College students will be able to discuss apprenticeship opportunities.
“Contributing positively to the communities in which we work is the keystone to our approach, and our Newcastle-under-Lyme car park project is no exception,” said Neil Carson, Morgan Sindall Construction Supply Chain Manager.
“Our Getting Connected programme creates a forum for local people, businesses and the third sector to forge connections with our supply chain and access opportunities on our projects. We aim to maximise the local pound on this project, so please come along if you’d like to find out more.”
Morgan Sindall, who are leading the build from their Liverpool office, recently held Getting Connected events in the North-West and Wales, for other projects.
