Plans have been drawn up for a sports lounge to take over a town centre unit left empty by the retailer Wilko.
Castle Sports Lounge wants to open on Market Street, in Tamworth, hosting snooker tables, pool tables and darts boards.
A planning application has been submitted to Tamworth Borough Council to change the use of the building from retail use.
A separate application seeks permission to make internal alterations to the Grade II-listed building, including constructing a bar and downstairs toilet.
A heritage statement written by applicant Nigel Buckler and sent in with the plans reads: “The Castle Sports Lounge will be the only place in the town centre that offers snooker, pool and darts to the disabled community.
“I will have dart boards in the disabled position full time. I have an automatic front door and with everything on one level, the whole of Tamworth community can come together.”
Applicant Nigel Buckler, who says he plans to sponsor the local pool league, bring back the Tamworth snooker league and start up a youth club, adds: “I have been a member of the Tamworth community for 42 years now and Tamworth has been crying out for a venue like this. Everyone will be able to enjoy these sports as they are again on the rise.
“I want to be part of finding the next talent to come out of Tamworth and bring the people of Tamworth together.”
A decision on the applications is expected in the coming weeks.
