Fundraising gig set to ‘raise the roof’ to support pub repairs after storm damage

A local band is set to donate all the profits from an upcoming gig to help a popular pub rebuild its roof following Storm Darragh.

The roof of The Rigger in Newcastle-under-Lyme was damaged in Saturday’s storm – although the live music space remained usable and the headline gig by Tony Wright of Terrorvision was still able to take place that night.

A post on the Marsh Parade venue’s Facebook page on Saturday read: “As we’re sure most people have herd we’ve had some severe damage from the storm earlier today.

“Thankfully no one was hurt and we’re incredibly grateful to the emergency response fire services for securing the area and making everything safe. The damage has been contained and we’ve had two qualified persons on site to assess if it’s safe to open.”

And now Stoke-on-Trent-based trio CLKWRK have stepped up to support the independent venue with their gig on Friday, December 13, with all profits going to the repair fund for the roof. Donation buckets will be available in the venue – and the band will also add an extra £1 for every pint of The Rigger’s classic ‘go go juice’ sold during their set.

Band member Nick Pilgrim, who runs Congleton-based video production company CineRobota, said: “The Rigger is an incredible place that holds a place in all our hearts as somewhere the local scene grows and thrives.

“To see any damage done to it at all is heartbreaking, which is why we want to bring the community together to – quite literally – raise the roof.”

Tickets for the gig, which also features VAOT and Magic Mary, are available from CLKWRK’s website now, costing £6 in advance or £8 on the door. Doors open at 7:30pm.
