Staffordshire energy broker on £1m mission to support good causes

1 min read

An energy broker who survived a life-threatening brain condition is aiming to raise £1 million for good causes by donating a portion of every new energy deal secured.

Matt Small, Managing Director of Rugeley-based T150 Energy, was diagnosed with a colloid cyst, a rare condition where a fluid-filled sac forms in the brain, in 2020 and given just six months to live. However, after undergoing lifesaving endoscopic surgery, he made a full recovery.

Following his recovery, Matt set out to support organisations in the care, education and charity sectors through energy brokering. His initiative, the Payback Scheme, secures competitive gas and electricity rates for these sectors and donates a portion of the brokerage fee directly back to them.

Matt is expanding the Payback Scheme with a new CSR-driven model, allowing businesses beyond the care, education and charity sectors to take part. Every time T150 Energy, which was founded in 2019, secures a contract for a commercial business, they will donate a portion of their commission on the business’s behalf to a charitable cause.

He said: “By expanding the Payback Scheme to businesses beyond the care, education and charity sectors, we’re not just helping them cut costs – we’re creating a ripple effect of giving that strengthens entire communities.

“Businesses today want to do more than just operate – they want to make a difference. The Payback Scheme allows them to reduce operational expenses while directly supporting charities and community initiatives.

“This expansion means that any business can now take advantage of our energy savings while contributing to meaningful causes. This isn’t just about cost-cutting; it’s about making every energy contract count for something bigger.”
