Residents and businesses have been asked to support a charity appeal to take vulnerable families on a trip to the coast.
The Gingerbread Centre, based in Stoke-on-Trent, wants to help families without a home enjoy a day at the beach in North Wales during the school summer holidays.
Children who attend the charity’s Activity Club – based at one of its two supported living accommodations in Stoke-on-Trent – will be given the chance to build sandcastles and paddle in the sea, something many of them have never experienced before.
An appeal has been launched with a £5,000 target.
Jess Druce, Fundraising Manager at The Gingerbread Centre, said: “Our services are designed to provide compassionate care for vulnerable families.
“A trip to the seaside provides an opportunity for families living at The Gingerbread Centre to make happy memories together, as well as being an enriching and educational experience for the children.
“A donation of just £8 will provide a bucket and spade, while a £15 contribution will cover the cost of a coach ticket for one child – but these donations mean so much more to parents and children who, without this support, would not have the chance to make these precious memories together.”

The Gingerbread Centre provides a range of services to vulnerable families across Staffordshire.
Alongside its supported accommodation in 33 units, providing a safe, welcoming space where families can rebuild their lives, the charity aims to build trusted relationships with families, help parents strengthen their skills, improve outcomes for children, link families with community resources and networks and prevent the need for escalation to more sensitive statutory services
Jess added: “Every family’s situation is unique and for many, the prospect of a holiday with their children, or even a day trip, can feel out of reach.
“A day by the sea offers parents the chance to enjoy time with their children and to bond with other parents who are facing similar challenges.
“This trip will help Gingerbread families feel safe, supported and stronger, by giving them the chance to connect and share the joy of a day by the seaside.”
