Manufacturing group pledges investment in Cannock site amid UK infrastructure boom

1 min read

A Midlands manufacturing group has pledged an investment into a major base in Staffordshire while setting out a three-year plan to quadruple its revenues as it positions itself to meet growing demand in the UK’s infrastructure sector.

Total Group – comprising Total Construction Supplies (Processing) and Reinforcement Solutions Ltd – aims for a turnover of £100 million by 2028 after investing in sites, staff, and sustainability. The company supplies steel reinforcement and building products for construction, housing, transport, and nuclear projects.

The business now operates more than 500,000 sq ft of manufacturing and storage space across four locations, including a £4 million site on Walkmill Lane in Cannock. Opened in December 2022, the 200,000 sq ft facility produces and stores the group’s largest reinforcement steel products and cages, with cutting and bending equipment, welding facilities, rebar coupling machinery, and ten overhead gantry cranes.

Ninety people currently work at the Cannock site in administration, production, engineering, maintenance and transport. Further investment is planned, including new machinery, a fleet of Renault vehicles, and six additional apprentices in 2026.

Across the group, Total employs 130 people and has launched an apprenticeship programme to attract new talent. Its sustainability programme has reduced the company’s carbon footprint below 500kg annually for the first time in its 27-year history, with plans to halve emissions by 2028.

Joseph Law, strategic development director at Total Group, said: “There is an unprecedented amount of infrastructure work taking place and both the government and the private sector are looking for domestic suppliers they can trust – this represents a massive opportunity for us.

“Everything we have done in the past three years – from strengthening the senior management team to the opening of our £4 million site in Cannock – has been completed to give us the foundations to target these new infrastructure opportunities and we believe we could quadruple revenues between now and the end of 2028.”

Total Group’s sites in Bilston, Wolverhampton, Cannock and Ilkeston provide sustainable reinforcement solutions for large-scale slabs, heavy loads and high-traffic infrastructure, including warehouses, production plants and logistics hubs. The company also produces bespoke pre-cast products.

Recent projects include a nuclear submarine base, the Thames Tideway project, Bromford Tunnels on HS2 and Hinkley Point nuclear power station.

Matthew Hague, who founded the group in 1998 with chief operating officer Craig Gibbons, said: “There’s no reason why we can’t produce 1000 tonnes of product every month, which would move us towards £100 million annual revenues and potentially create in excess of 75 new jobs.

“We’ve seen with recent global news how important it is for the UK to be responsible for its own infrastructure and having access to a supply chain that can deliver the scale and complexity of these projects on time and to budget. This is where we come in.”
