Staffordshire’s only Top 100 restaurant Lowe’s celebrates success with expansion

1 min read

Popular restaurant Lowe’s on Carter Street has upped its floorspace, increased its covers and created a new bar area by expanding into an adjacent unit.

The independent venue in Uttoxeter has snapped up the unit next door which was last used as an aesthetics clinic, spending £15,000 on creating more space for its diners.

The investment comes as the restaurant celebrates winning a spot in OpenTable’s Top 100 Restaurants in the UK for 2025. It is the only restaurant in Staffordshire to be featured.

The online restaurant reservation platform compiled the list by analysing over 780,000 diner reviews, along with diner ratings, reservation demand, and the percentage of five-star reviews.

Chef George Lowe, who runs the restaurant with musician wife Jemma, said: “Expanding the restaurant at a time when hospitality is under more pressure than ever wasn’t a decision we took lightly. Costs across the industry are rising and we’re seeing venues close every week, so to be able to grow – and to be recognised as one of OpenTable’s Top 100 Restaurants in the UK – is something we’re incredibly proud of. It tells us that what we’re doing here in Uttoxeter is resonating with people.

“Being able to expand the business, create more space for customers, and still give back to the town that has supported us from day one is what this is all about for Jemma and me.”

George and Jemma pride themselves on sourcing and using the best in local products, cook everything on site and have a Google star rating of five, with more than 400 five-star reviews.

The pair – who would like to open another restaurant in Staffordshire – delivered 200 three-course Christmas dinners completely free of charge and with no questions asked to people across Uttoxeter at the end of last year.

George added: “Our Christmas campaign is part of our fabric at Lowes and it was amazing to give back and see the smiles on people’s faces when we delivered them on Christmas Day.

“We don’t do things by halves at Lowes. We were in the middle of the busiest time of the year, when we decided to expand – in for a penny, in for a pound and it’s really paid off – we are delighted with the result.”
