A Leek-based food firm is supporting a birthday campaign for a seven-year-old girl receiving palliative care for a childhood cancer.
Ornua Foods UK is inviting Staffordshire businesses to get behind Amelia Kolpa who has neuroblastoma and wants to break the world record for the most number of birthday cards received, which stands at 8,000.
Jess Wood, a commercial controller at Ornua and the company’s Diversity and Belonging Council Lead in the UK, lives close to Amelia and her family in Stourbridge.

She told Daily Focus: “Amelia’s story has touched the heart of everyone in my local community. She’s a brave little girl who has faced more in her young life than anyone should, yet her birthday wish is something simple: to receive as many birthday cards as possible and break the UK record of 8,000!
“Sending a card is such a small act for each of us, but together it can create something genuinely magical for Amelia and her family. It’s a chance to show compassion, spread joy, and remind her that people everywhere are rooting for her.
“If you can, please take a moment to send a card and be part of making her birthday dream come true. Small gestures can make the biggest difference.”
Amelia was diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma in 2020 and went through 23 months of intensive treatment. After reaching a stable condition, her cancer returned twice, even after taking part in clinical trials.
Birthday cards can be posted to or dropped off at Ornua Food UK’s reception at Sunnyhills Road, Leek, ST13 5SP. They need to be received by 18 February ready to be delivered in time for Amelia’s birthday on 3 March.
