Middleport Pottery Canal Festival returns for its third year this weekend, expanding to two days for the first time thanks to its growing popularity.
The free festival celebrates the canals that once played a vital role in the pottery site’s operations.
Visitors can expect heritage narrowboats, floating traders, stalls, activities including mini pot throwing taster sessions and entertainment from the likes of Trentham Brass Band and Koogie the Draft Horse.
The site’s Heritage Trail will be free to access throughout the event, giving visitors the chance to explore Middleport Pottery’s Victorian history, step inside a traditional bottle oven and then experience life in the 1950’s at the Lodge Keeper’s House exhibition in Harper Street.
Louise Bartley, marketing and communications manager at Re-Form Heritage, said: “This annual celebration of our canal history here at Middleport Pottery brings together some fantastic local entertainers, creatives, roving traders and newly restored heritage narrowboat Norway will join the very talented creative community that is already here onsite.
“The annual canal festival always proves to be a great family fun day out and we look forward to welcoming everyone to this free event.”
Grade II*-listed Middleport Pottery, now owned by Re-Form Heritage, was built by Burgess & Leigh in the late 19th century and is the UK’s last working Victorian potbank in continuous production.
