Tile Mountain expands with ‘iconic’ former Johnsons Tiles site

Tile Mountain Group has expanded its presence in Stoke-on-Trent with the purchase of the 30-acre former Johnsons Tiles site in Tunstall.

The site, which includes production facilities, offices and warehouses, sits next to Tile Mountain’s existing 400,000 sq. ft. warehouse complex, serving both Tile Mountain and Bathroom Mountain.

Johnson Tiles ceased production at the Tunstall site in 2024 and has since been clearing the premises. Tile Mountain Group purchased the site from Johnson Tiles owner Norcross, further demonstrating its commitment to growth in the Stoke-on-Trent area.

Mo Iqbal, chairman of Tile Mountain Group, said: “We’re delighted to acquire this iconic site, right next to our Tunstall facilities. This marks a key stage in the expansion of our business in the area, which now includes multiple warehouses and showrooms.

“Securing the Johnsons site gives us the space and flexibility to grow our retail and distribution operations with confidence over the medium and long term.

“It also strengthens our presence in Stoke-on-Trent, a city with a long-standing connection to the tile industry. We’d like to thank Norcross for their support in helping us complete this deal, and we look forward to unlocking the potential of this historic site.”

Daily Focus reported in April last year that production was to stop at Johnson Tiles in Tunstall after more than 120 years in the city. The designer, manufacturer and supplier of high-quality ceramic and porcelain tiles had been operational since 1901.
