1 min read

University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) NHS Trust has celebrated a decade of robotic surgical innovation, surpassing 5,000 robotic-assisted procedures since the programme began in 2014.

The milestone was marked at a ‘Robotics Excellence Showcase’ last Tuesday, supported by UHNM Charity, which brought together clinical teams, patients, executives and industry partners to reflect on the Trust’s pioneering work in robotic surgery.

Attendees tried hands-on simulations and joined panel discussions featuring UHNM’s 5000th patient alongside the surgeons who helped build the programme.

Topics included the patient experience, future plans and ongoing research, highlighting UHNM’s commitment to training the next generation of surgeons.

Lisa Thomson, Director of UHNM Charity, said: “The showcase was a tremendous success, vividly highlighting how charitable support has directly translated into surgical innovation and improved patient care.

Having our 5000th patient share the stage with the pioneering surgeons behind this programme was a powerful moment. It perfectly illustrated the human impact of this decade-long journey and the collective success built by UHNM Charity, our donors, and our incredible clinical teams.”

The showcase highlighted UHNM’s dedication to clinical excellence and its ambition to share its robotic surgery expertise locally, nationally and internationally, showing Staffordshire’s growing reputation as a hub for cutting-edge healthcare innovation.
