Businesses and residents are being encouraged to have their say on a new vision for transport in Stoke-on-Trent.
The transport prospectus – known as On the Move: Transport for Thriving Communities – sets out the city council’s priorities for improving the way people get around Stoke-on-Trent, with a focus on buses, rail and active travel.
The document outlines ambitions to develop a more reliable and affordable bus network, invest in safer and smoother roads and tackle gridlock on the city’s busiest routes.
Other priorities include better cycling and walking infrastructure – such as new cycle lanes, dropped kerbs and crossings – more electric vehicle charging points and improved connections between bus and rail services.
Residents, partners and businesses are now being asked for their views as part of a six-week consultation, which will feed into the Local Transport Plan for 2026 to 2040.
Councillor Finlay Gordon-McCusker, cabinet member for transport, regeneration and infrastructure, said: “We know that, right now, our transport system is not working as it should. It’s not working for older people, workers, families, students and small businesses.
“Our vision sets out a bold, practical plan to fix our transport system, built around a core belief that everyone deserves access to safe, reliable, affordable and green transport.
“That means better buses that actually go where people need them, when they need them. It means fixing our roads and pavements. It means making it safe and easy to walk, cycle or use a wheelchair. It means making greener travel the most convenient option – and giving people a real choice.
“Real change takes all of us, so we want to hear your ideas, your frustrations and your hopes. Please have your say and help us to shape the future of transport in our city.”
Declan Riddell, Policy Adviser at Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, added: “Transport plays such a pivotal role in getting people to and from work, and we urge Stoke-on-Trent businesses to share feedback with the city council’s transport prospectus in shaping the future vision of travel in our city.”
Daily Focus recently reported that Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Staffordshire County Council had unveiled a Joint Strategic Transport Statement to ensure future transport improvements work across local authority boundaries.
The shared approach identifies key areas for action, including better public transport, more efficient road use and support for active travel.
