New city centre bar coming to Lichfield

A new bar is set to be created in a listed building in Lichfield.

Lichfield District Council has given the go-ahead for the former Salon28 unit on Market Street to turned into a “vibrant and modern bar” and undergo a refurbishment to “breathe new life” into the Grade II listed building.

A planning application to change the use of the property also covers internal alterations including new partitioning and the installation of air conditioning units, new signage and outdoor seating to the front of the building.

The development has been in the pipelines for some months, with an original planning application submitted in September before being withdrawn and the new one being put forward in February.

It is expected to create three full-time and two part-time jobs.

A design statement submitted with the now approved plans reads: “We aim to create a vibrant and welcoming space that enhances the local community while respecting and safeguarding the building’s historic significance.

“The proposed modifications are minimal, focusing on the functional needs of a modern bar, and the external facade will remain unaltered, ensuring the building’s continued contribution to the architectural landscape of the area.”
